Blues Women,
Blues Women – is a multi-discipline program combining music, film, movement and song, while exploring six dynamic blues women that shaped American music. Bessie Smith, Ida Cox, Dinah Washington, Alberta Hunter, Billie Holiday and Mamie Smith will come alive as Lenora and live trio of musicians perform their songs and tell their stories in this interactive, audience participatory experience. The film installation, created by filmmaker Lana Garland, consists of archival and present day footage which interweaves with the live performance, tracing the contributions of these great women in contemporary music from then to now. Using the genres of Blues, Gospel, Jazz, R&B, Pop, and Hip-Hop, this presentation is suitable for all ages. www.Hayti.org for tickets.
