The North Carolina Arts Council, in partnership with North Carolina Central University’s Teaching Artist Certificate Program, will present Teaching Artist Tuesdays, an online workshop series kicking-off Tuesday, July 14.

The free online workshops will serve as a map for this state’s teaching artists as they navigate the COVID-19 landscape. Sharon Hill, Arts Education director for the N.C. Arts Council, and Lenora Helm Hammonds, director of North Carolina Central University’s Teaching Artist Certificate Program, will curate and facilitate the workshops.

Other collaborators on the training are ARTS North Carolina and the N.C. Department of Public Instruction.

Teaching artists in the state, as well as artists interested in learning about opportunities to teach, are invited to attend Teaching Artist Tuesdays.

A New Pedagogy: Social and Emotional Learning While Being Artful in Times of Trauma

Tuesday, August 25, 3–4:30 p.m.

Panelists Brandon Roeder and Sayward Grindley, both of the N.C. Department of Instruction, and teaching artists Shana Tucker and Lonnie Davis will talk about strategies and skills for challenging times. The new emphasis on social and emotional learning is easily fostered by the arts. This session explains how teaching artists can incorporate these concepts into their practice. Time for questions and answers will follow the presentation.
